Vocabulary

Rabies- A disease that infects animals and can be transmitted to humans by bite or saliva

e.g. I was bitten by a wild dog so I had to get a rabies vaccine.

Anthropology (ren lei xue)- Study of human culture

e.g. I studied anthropology as my major in university.

Saliva- (kou shui) The water that is in your mouth.

e.g. When a dog gets hungry, it has a lot of saliva.

Vaccine- Usually a kind of medicine that we give by using a needle.

e.g. When children are young, they have to get many different kinds of vaccines.

Specialization- When you focus on one area or topic during your studies.

e.g. I’m a doctor but my specialization is cardiology.

Coincidence- when something happens but it’s not planned

e.g. Oh, what a coincidence!

Hereditary- When you get a disease from one of  your parents.

e.g. My mom had arrhythmia and her father did too so I think it’s hereditary.

Inherit- To get something from someone who has died, something they give you.

e.g. When my grandmother died, I inherited her house.

Genetic- Things that are in someone’s genes (DNA)

e.g. The color of your eyes and hair is based on genetics.
