Speaking exercise

  • While reading, pay attention to the “r” and “s”. When you pronounce a word with “r”, check and see if there’s actually an “r” in the word. Also, when you see a new word, try to take it apart, and pronounce each part. (i.e. dedication – de + di + ca + tion)
  • *”i” would be pronounced as /i/, /ai/, /e/…etc.
  • when two words are put together to make a new word (i.e. bestow, extraordinary), there’s usually two emphasises in the beginning of the two words.

Homework

Use some of the vocabulary from today in some writing. Choose a topic that lets you use the words we learned.
  1. Go over all the new words we learned today, and make a sentence for each.
  2. Read the whole article again, making sure that you’re not adding “r” when it’s not needed.
