Is it common or normal to make substitutions or additions to dishes at restaurants in Korea?

We easily see that someone make substitutions to dishes at restaurants in Korea now. The young generation likes to the range and they want to be respected it. And also many new restaurant’s owners know that and they have so many options of choice in the menu. Especially in the handmade burger shop we can see that. For example, the server ask you what kind of patty (rare/medium/well-done) or you can request what kind of veggie don’t you like. And same as the Starbucks will be happened.
But it is not always such of that. If we go to restaurant with the boss, we usually order dishes same as the boss. Not for me, but it is very common things in Korea. Of course as the different industry, it will be happened or maybe not.

My friend told me a funny story, his boss always want to have lunch with my friend, as they both doesn’t have big gap in age and younger staffs don’t want to get together with their boss. If his boss says he wanna eat spicy food, he eat spicy food with him and he guess that his boss may have quarrel with his wife. Because most people seek spicy food when they can’t cool down. If his boss wanna eat a hangover soup, he have no choice, he have to accompany his boss to eat a hangover soup. This happens is getting disappear more and more in Korea and one day when his boss have lunch, my friend will disappear from lunch table.
It is a big deal for me when someone order foods or drinks at the fast food, they hesitate and can’t decide quickly what they want. I don’t understand what they did when they were waiting in line.

Now in Korea, we easily see that younger generations make substitutions or additions to dishes at restaurants. They like variety and want to be accepted for it compared to older generations who prefer simpler dishes.
A
lso many new restaurant owners realize (know) that so they have so many options and choices in the menu to accommodate them.

We can especially see that in handmade burger shops. For example, the server/cook asks you, “how do you want your burger cooked? Rare, medium, or well-done?” Or you can tell which veggies you don’t want. It is the same at Starbucks. / It is the same situation at/as Starbucks.

However, in most Korean companies, if an employee goes out to lunch with their boss, they usually order the same dishes as their boss, except for me.

My friend told me a funny story, his boss is around the same age as him and always wants to have lunch together, because his younger staff members don’t want to eat with their boss.

Most Koreans joke that if somebody seeks spicy food it’s because they argued with their wife and they can’t cool down. So, when his boss says he wants to eat spicy food, he thinks this, so he has to eat spicy food too.

If his boss gets drunk one night, the next day he wants to eat hangover soup, so my friend has no choice, he has to accompany his boss to eat hangover soup.

This happens less and less in Korea and some day my friend will stop eating with his boss.

It is a big deal for me when someone orders food at a fast food restaurant and they hesitate and can’t quickly decide what they want. I don’t understand what they did when they were waiting in line.
