Homework

Use some of the vocabulary from today in some writing. Choose a topic that lets you use the words we learned.

Vocabulary

1. Damaged (损坏)vs broken (被破坏)

Broken: An object does not work anymore

Damaged: An object has deteriorated from its original state

ie: My phone was broken so I could not call you

ie: His new shoes got damaged in the rain.

2. To resign (离职)

ie: I would like to resign from my company.

3. Stock Exchange (股票交易所)

ie: The company will be listed on the New York stock exchange in February.

4. To Stamp (盖章) (v. and n.)

ie: I needed to get an official stamp on the document.

ie: I needed to get the official document stamped.

5. Staple (订书)
ie: I needed to get the official document stapled.

6. Assignment (任务)

ie: She gave me this assignment on Thursday, and asked me to finish it on Friday.

ie: I did not want them to give me the assignment of cleaning the bathroom.

ie: I refused to do the assignment.

7. To Assign (交办)

ie: I did not want to be assigned this task.

ie: I did not want the task of walking the dog to be assigned to me.

8. Blame (把责任推给别人)

ie: My boss put the blame on me.

ie: He blamed me for not doing this task.

9. Volatile (可能急剧波动的)

ie: My friend is very volatile. Even the smallest inconveniences can set her off.

ie: The stocks have been quite volatile over the past few weeks.

10. Flexible 对(什么)随便

ie: I am very flexible about where to eat tonight.

Grammar

1. Because of (preposition)

Meaning: As a result of

ie: Because of the bad economy, the company laid off many employees.

ie: Because of the prevalence of swine flu in China, people stopped eating pork.

ie: My friend left his job because of the terrible working conditions.

ie: He wants to leave the company because of the high-pressure working environment.

2. Verb (working, living, etc.) + Under + adj + Conditions

ie: He works under harsh conditions.

ie: Because the employees were working under such harsh conditions over half left the company by the end of the year.

3. Look forward to + verb-ing

ie: I look forward to seeing you.

ie: I look forward to making lots of money.
