Vocabulary

amicable: 心平气和的; 友善的; (less than friendly)

spare: a leftover, prepared (adj and n)

Grammar

refuse/reject
– refuse (say no), reject (bu yao, don’t want it)
ie. I refused having popeyes. My friend asked me to have popeyes, I refused.
ie. Rejecting a wrong offer is a good choice./To reject a wrong offer is (verb)to make a good decision.

had/have
– I had a friend.  (now I don’t)

“playing the field” = looking all over the place, not focused in one place

I’m looking forward to + noun (the thing you want)
ie. I’m looking forward to your reply./hearing from you.
ie. I hope to hear from you.

go to +place/concept, never verb
ie. go to my place

go fighting = do something
ie. go swimming

stand up for yourself = protect yourself/your rights

peaceful vs calm
ie. He felt calm

Speaking exercise

I only sad for half a day.
I was only sad for half a day.

He called me for a party. The party was full of his friends.
He called me to go to a party/to invite me to a party which was full of his friends.

I met almost all of them except one person.

I only need to deal with my own matters./focus on myself.

I did the homework from the class before last, but I have yet to do/I didn’t do the one from last class.

Q: Something you look forward to this year.
A: It’s already August, so for the last four months, I’m looking forward to make more friends. For the last couple of years, my word was not open enough, as you know. So in 2020, I want build a new relationship and expand my life and job possibilities. I think it should be work and I had a plan, for example, I should go to the gym and meet more positive people. Before, if my friends ask me to their parties, I didn’t want to go, because I wanted to go back home. I didn’t want to make any argues. But now, I am freedom. So I think I should attend more parties to meet more friends.

A: It’s already August, so for the last four months, I’m looking forward to making/I hope to make more friends. For the last couple of years, my world was not very accepting/inclusive/welcoming, as you know. So in 2020, I want build new relationships/friendships and expand my life and career possibilities/social circle. I think it should work and I already have a plan, for example, I should go to the gym and meet more proactive people who have high standards for themselves/on their appearance. Before, if my friends asked/invited me to their parties, I didn’t want to go, because I wanted to go back home. I didn’t want to have any arguments./I would refuse because I wanted to avoid arguments with you-know-who. But now, I am free/I have found freedom/I’m embracing freedom. So I think I should attend more parties to meet more friends.
