Grammar

different: do not use “with”
– different from.. different than..

for descriptions; adjs sometimes fail you, use sentence instead
ie. so… that… to the point that… or just start new sentence.

speak vs say vs use
speak : a language, volume… action of speaking
ie. Can you speak up a little bit? (a little louder)

say:  concept of saying sth… meaning
ie. What are you saying = what do you mean?
ie. I’m saying that … + idea

use: for grammar
ie. I can’t use long sentences…

comparisons: must be in same format
ie. China’ population is larger than that of Canada.

Q: Tell me about someone famous that you like.

A: My favorite idol is Jackson Yi, who works very very hard. He is handsome and good-looking. He’s an actor, singer and dancer. Even though he is only twenty years old, he can do a lot of things that an adult can’t do. The most part I like him is that he has a different thinking with other people. For example, if there’s a river, what we see is just a river, but he can see it as a dragon, maybe. He is so different, so I like him.

A: My favorite idol is Jackson Yi, who is an actor, singer, and dancer. He is in his twenties/ he is twenty-something, very hardworking, and extremely handsome to the point that I have never seen anyone who’s as hot as he is./ strikingly beautiful. I think he is the best-looking young idol in China. The first time I saw his picture, I was immediately mesmerized by his beauty. Even though he is only twenty years old, he can do a lot of things that an adult can’t do. /he has achieved a lot more than an adult./ his accomplishments outnumber that of most adults. My favorite part about him/The best part about him/The biggest reason why I like him is that he has a different thinking/he always thinks differently from the rest of us. For example, if there’s a river, what we see is just a river. But to him, the river might be a dragon. He is so special and talented/imaginative/creative, so I like him.

Q: Tell me about your dream vacation.
A: My dream vacation is to see old, beautiful views in the world in one year. When I think of the beautiful views, I am so excited. Recently, I really want to go to the JiuZhai Valley in Sichuan Province. Many of my classmates, they walked there as a guide. They always send me a lot of pictures there, which I am attractive. And I also want to see the mountain in America, because one of my friends had went to there, and he took a lot of great pictures, but I never been there, so I want to travel around the world.
A: My dream vacation is to see all the beautiful views of the world in one year.  When I think of the beautiful views, I am so excited./I am beside myself with excitement. Recently, I have been really excited about going to the JiuZhai Valley in Sichuan Province. Many of my classmates worked there as a guide. They always send me a lot of pictures from there/of the beautiful scenery there, which I am totally/completely attracted to. And I also want to see the mountains in America, because one of my friends had gone there before, and he took a lot of great pictures, but I never been there. I guess there’s not just one place that I want to see… that’s why I said I want to travel around the world. 

Do you think the neighbors nowadays are different from those in/from the old times?/how they were in the old times.

I realized that neighbors nowadays are much different with the generation when I was a little girl. I was more familiar with them at that time.
It’s weird that we know nothing about people who are living beside us. We don’t know how many people there are or how they look like. It wouldn’t happen in my childhood.
I had been very close to my neighbors When I was young. We went out together, ate together and slept together. We were friends then. But now we don’t even see each other.
I think the main reason which makes us become strangers is that society goes fast, but making friends is a long-time-job. I believe that we can do better someday in the future.

I realized that neighbors nowadays are much different than how they were when I was a little girl./mean something different than (they did) when I was a little girl./the meaning of neighbors has evolved/the word”neighbor” has come to mean something different/ since when I was a little girl. I was much more familiar with them at that time. / in the old days.
