wing it: do it without preparation
ie. Ally never prepares; she just wings it!

ie. You can drink tap water directly in Vancouver.

ie. Ally hates room temperature water.

can’t stand: sth that really bothers you
ie. Elena, I can’t stand your Spanish accent.

ditch: skip out, not go, leave out
ie. Don’t ditch on me./ Don’t ditch me, take me along with you.

errands: daily responsibilities
ie. Elena has to run a lot of errands today.

pet peeves: little things that you just don’t like/sometimes unreasonable
ie. One of Ally’s pet peeves is people getting too close to her.

apartmenthunting: looking for sth (n)
ie. Lily and I went apartment-hunting.

down-to-earth: (adj) practical, not “on the clouds”

inherit: get sth (wealth, house, company) from your parents/relatives
ie. The down-to-earth guy inherited a large piano from his grandfather.

freshen up: (v) for drinks; pour more  for people; reapply make-up, fix hair/outfit, go to bathroom
ie. Would you like me to freshen up your drink? (refill) Do you want/would you like a refill?
ie. I want to freshen up before I meet up with you.

cut back/down: save
ie. Ally needs to cut back on her spending because she’s poor now.

splurge: spend without budget plan, normally buying lots of things you don’t need
ie. Ally went on a splurge on 618 shopping festival.

spoonfuls: measurement for one spoon
ie. I put a spoonful of sugar in my coffee.

scoop: a cup or maybe smaller (v)
ie. I have to scoop up after my dog.
ie. I had two scoops of strawberry ice cream.

dairy queen: ice cream brand
ie. DQ is Ally’s favorite ice cream place.

I´ll tell you how my mum made the coffee, that we drunk every day.
Long time ago coffee maker didn’t exist or maybe yes, but my mum and I didn’t know it.  So my mum used to use a small pot, she filled it whit half and litre of water or a bit more like 3 cups, depend of day, and added brown sugar two tbsp and some tbsp of coffee, maybe 3 or four scoops.  Then she put it over on stove and turn it on to simmer.
