Vocabulary

get rid of (v): gan zou le
ie. You should get rid of your bad habits.

basis:  (n) 原因; 缘由; 基准;  (adj) basic (n and V) base: zong bu
ie. We are based in LA. Our base is in LA.
ie. I will be taking classes on a regular/weekly/daily basis.  -> time
ie. We will be in contact on a regular basis./regularly.
ie. Bion has a very basic understanding of English.

all-nighter: tong xiao (n)
ie. I pulled an all-nighter the other day./I stayed up the whole night.

handwriting: zi ji (n)
ie. Two years ago, my handwriting was better./worse.

curious: hao qi (n) curiosity = hao qi xin
ie. I’m not a very curious person.
ie. I don’t have lots of curiosity.

excited: xing fen (n) excitement
ie. We are excited for the concert. ( yan chang hui)
ie. There’s lots of excitement about/surrounding the concert.

nowadays: in modern times/ in recent times
ie. Nowadays, the good restaurants all need pre-booking.
ie. Nowadays, we need to line-up for the good restaurants.

event: shi jian
ie. For events, you need a tense on your verbs. For facts, you don’t.

get to know: ren shi, know things about you (get to= want, can)
ie. Ally wants to get to know Bion. -> Ally wants to know more about Bion
ie. He doesn’t get to call me baby. -> He wants to call me that, but I don’t let him
ie. I don’t get to see my parents anymore. -> I want to see them, but I can’t
ie. I get to buy a new car because it’s my birthday and my parents/gf supports me.
ie. I don’t get to buy a new car because my parents wouldn’t let me.
ie. She doesn’t get to have dinner with the big boss, because she’s new.

splurge: waste big money (n and v)
ie. Yesterday, I woke up with a need to splurge.

Grammar

time: beginning or end of idea, never in between SVO

eat = action of eating, just eating
ie. Ally doesn’t eat weird stuff.
have dinner/a meal = eat together
ie. I had dinner with my gf./my boss….

It’s:
– whenever you have no subject, it’s IT or THERE
ie. It feels expensive.
ie. It’s hot/cold/warm/windy/sunny/rainy/raining … (Don’t use “weather” or “temperature”… )

study/learn
ie. I study English with Ally.
ie. I learned English from Ally./for work./life.

tense:
– on verbs
– on events
– not on facts
ie.

SVO:
– S and O are both nouns
– noun : person place thing

for: the thing that comes after drives the meaning/the reason for doing sth
ie. I bought this for you. This is for you.
ie. We went to Maldives for vacation./on vacation.
