Vocabulary

hassle: ma fan, trouble

indicator: 指示信号; 标志; 迹象
ie. These are the indicators for the economy picking up./coming-back. that the economy is getting better/making a come back.

clock in (at work): da ka
ie. You must clock in here everyday.

genuinely: zhen xin de (adj) genuine
ie. I want you to talk with me genuinely, instead of avoiding the problem.
ie. I want a genuine discussion about the problem.

furious: very very very mad (n) fury
ie. I’m furious at Lily for being 2 hours late.
ie. I can my own fury.

up front: biao man shang
ie. He is a computer geek/nerd up front, but actually/in reality , he is a flirt.

flirt: (person and v) tiao qing / hai wang
ie. Lily is such a flirt. Lily likes to flirt around.

intense: 激烈的; 有强烈感情(或意见、想法)
ie. I have intense feelings about the subject.  -> I feel strongly about this subject.
ie. He’s a very intense guy.  -> gao leng , a lot going on, not very happy/upbeat
ie. The movie was intense. -> ji lie

genre: lei xing / type (for movies, music, book.. art stuff)
ie. What’s your favorite music genre?

Grammar

“the” + category of people // or be general
ie. the average parent (always singular)// average parents

as (adj) as someone can.. *As possible as I can -> not a thing
– the adj must be “how much” … “how much?” -> “as much as I can”
ie. As fast as I can…. As many as I can get …

Q: Tell me about one time when your boyfriend really got you mad
A: My boyfriend really got me mad that day. I was really tired and I want him to do massage for me. He said yes but I don’t know why he looks like illness. And so I yelled at him and he started to keep silence with me. I don’t think it’s my fault because he said yes at first and he still doesn’t talk with me, which makes me more furious.
A: I was really mad with my boyfriend the day before yesterday./a while ago/a fews days ago/the other day. I was really tired from working out all day and I wanted him to massage my shoulders/legs. He said yes and came over to massage me, but I don’t know why he was absent-minded/he didn’t really try/he was so weak/he looked so weak/he looked like he didn’t want to. And so I began yelling at him and in return, he stopped talking to me. I don’t think it’s my fault because he said yes at first/agreed at first and even now, he still avoids talking about it, which makes me even more furious.

Topic: describe a TV show you like

I’m watching an amazing TV show named <911> recently, which I love it a lot. It tells the story of 911 operators, firefighters and police. It’s an action,disaster and adventure type.

Why I like it is not only because of the tense plot, but also the characters in the play. They are kind,brave,positive and intelligent. They love their job so they work very hard. They never give up easily when they deal with the difficult cases, they will try every method as possible as they can.

The most impressive part is the way they get along with their families. For example, Athena’s daughter May wrote an essay called “live with enemy”, which the enemy means Athena. I think for the average parents ,they are going to be mad at their children. But Athena chooses to talk with May to find out why she sees her as an enemy, instead of punish her directly.

They always solve problems, not avoid. That’s the person I appreciate and want to be. So I think it’s an awesome play.

Recently, I have been watching an amazing TV series named <911>, which I love a lot. It tells the story of 911 operators, firefighters and police. It has action,disaster and adventure all in one show.

I like it not only because of the intense plot, but also because of the characters in the play./ The reason why I like it is that it has an intense …. They are kind,brave,positive and intelligent. They love their job so they work very hard. They never give up easily when they deal with the difficult cases/they persist through …. , they will try as hard as they can. /always give it their all.

The most impressive part is the way they get along with their families./their relationship with their family members. For example, Athena’s daughter May wrote an essay called “live with enemy”, in which = where/and the enemy means Athena. I think for the average parent/for average parents, it is a hurtful thing to say and they are going to be mad at their children./average parents will get mad at their children. But instead of punishing her child directly, Athena chooses to talk with May to find out why she sees her as an enemy.

They always solve problems, not avoid them. That’s the kind of person I appreciate and want to be. So I think it’s an awesome show.
