Writing exercise

Describe how the “Dark Forest Theory” shapes the universe in Liu Cixin’s books. Why does it seem like a reasonable theory? How does it affect the way that people act in his universe? On Earth, we use large radio telescopes to send messages out into space, which is the opposite of what Liu’s theory says we should do. Are we stupid for doing this?

Original:

The Dark Forest is a basic principle in LIU Cixin’s book “Three Body Problem”. It makes different kinds of civilization being cautious to contact with each other. Thus the universe is quite silent. If any civilization shows its position in the universe to the public, it would possibly be destroyed by another hostile civilization with higher level of technology. On the other hand, any civilization should develop its technology as fast as possible, which means it would have more powerful weapons to protect its people, resources and living space.

I think it is dangerous to send messages out into space by radio telescope, satellite or any other tools. Some people might think the aliens will be friendly to human race. But that might be just a beautiful hope. Actually we would never know whether the aliens are good before we meet them. If unfortunately we are found by hostile aliens, I don’t think our human race would have enough power to fight against them. Therefore, it is wise for human to keep unnoticed until our technology are fully developed.
