Vocabulary

Thriller (n): 1- a book, play, or film that has an exciting story, often about solving a crime.
E.g.: Last night I stayed home watched a really exciting thriller.

Dated (adj): 1- old-fashioned.
E.g.: Spy thrillers with plots based on the Cold War look particularly dated nowadays.
E.g.: The movie looks very dated now.

Nostalgia (n): 1- a feeling of pleasure and also slight sadness when you think about things that happened in the past. (adj: Nostalgic)
E.g.: Some people feel nostalgia for their schooldays.
E.g.: Hearing that song again filled him with nostalgia.
E.g.: Talking about our old family holidays has made me feel very nostalgic.

Cliché (adj): 1- a saying, a story or remark that is very often made and is therefore not original and not interesting:
E.g.: I know it’s cliché to say this, but my wedding day was just the happiest day of my life.
E.g.: The storyline in the movie was very cliché, but I still found it entertaining.

Portrayal (n): 1- the way that someone or something is described or represented in a painting, film, book, or other artistic work.
Eg.: His latest movie is a dark portrayal of wartime suffering.
Eg.: Julia Roberts won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of the title character in “Erin Brockovich”.
Eg.: The artist’s works were known for their accurate portrayal of the Old West.

Portrait (n): 1- a painting, photograph, drawing, etc. of a person.
E.g.: She’s hired an artist to paint her portrait/paint a portrait of her.
E.g.: He’s a photographer specialized in portraits / He’s a portrait photographer.
E.g.: She enjoys drawing realistic portraits of her friends and family members.
