Homework

Review the vocabulary, and write about your travels back from Hunan to Guangdong.

Vocabulary

Valve – 气嘴, part of a tire or a ball which is used to inflate the ball or tire, and to keep air from getting out
e.g. At the Ball factory, they use a much better valve than at the Kawagoe factory.

Off-center – when something is not in the center
e.g. If the valve is installed off-center, it will be hard to inflate the ball.

Assembly – putting something together from parts into a whole
e.g. The assembly process for a soccer ball is cutting, printing, and then stitching.

Grammar

Lists – when you have a list of three or more things, you can use commas to separate them
e.g. To produce a ball, there are three steps: cutting, printing, and stitching.

Use of “we” – sometimes “we” doesn’t mean any one person, it means everyone
e.g. We can avoid the valve being off-center/misaligned (it means everyone making balls at the factory)
e.g. In this country, we like to eat noodles (everyone, in general)

Writing exercise

(From email service, to make the meaning of the story clearer)

Dear all

I checked the raw materials in at the Ball plant today, I found many materials for Tyre in their warehouse and only a few materials for Classic in their warehouse, they told me that more materials will arrive be reached later.

The factory told me that they would start cutting materials in two days then printing and stitching.

Beside Also, I found the filling hole structure (mold?) of rubber bladder in at the Ball plant factory is much better than the Kawagoe factory that we used, this filling hole structure is top bigger than bottom so can avoid filling hole not in the center after assembled.

Dear all

I checked the raw materials at the Ball plant today, I found many materials for Tyre in their warehouse and only a few materials for Classic. They told me that more materials will arrive later.

The factory also told me that they would start cutting, printing, and stitching materials in two days then printing and stitching.

Also, I found that the rubber bladder valves at the Ball plant factory are much better than those used at the Kawagoe factory. This valve’s top is bigger than it’s bottom so we can avoid that the valve is off-center after assembling.
