Homework

Write about the books you ordered.
What kind of books?
How many?
How did you find out about them?

Vocabulary

Opposite – (preposition) to be across from 对面
e.g. The restaurant is opposite the train station.

Under vs. Underneath vs. Beneath – these are generally synonyms, but sometimes they differ in usage
— Under is about the position of something
e.g. She is under the table.
— Underneath seems to me to also mean that you are covered by that thing; you can’t be seen by another person (the person speaking)
e.g. Where is she? Is she underneath the table?
— Beneath seems to be “on a lower level”
e.g. She lives in the apartment beneath mine (I live in 612, she lives in 512)
e.g. She lives on the floor beneath mine (I on the sixth, she is somewhere on the fifth)
e.g. She lives beneath the city (somewhere under the city, there is a place where she lives)

Delivery – when you receive something, what you receive
e.g. My delivery arrived yesterday.

Grammar

He is a French – He is French

“In” is about limits
e.g. In the evening
e.g. In city
e.g. In the room
e.g. In 1992

If you want to use “have” or “had,” then you must have a beginning point for the action. You must answer the question: “since when?”
e.g. My bookshelf has been full since Christmas, when I received many new books.
e.g. I had been learning Chinese since August, but I was still having trouble speaking with the shop owner (maybe this was happening in September).

One of the . . . – the noun that follows is always plural (with “s”), because it is one of many possible things
e.g. One of the books I wanted (I wanted many different ones, and this is just one example)
Any – also, when you “any,” you should put the next noun in the plural form

When you have two verbs, only put the first one in the past tense.
e.g. I tried to tell him that he was in trouble, but he wouldn’t listen.

Speaking exercise

I bought a lot of book in single’s day. They are still in delivery. I haven’t got them. At the beginning I think no one will buy books on single’s day, but in fact, when I opened my app in the morning, I found that one of the book I wanted to buy have been sold out. I am so surprised about it! So, I download another apps, tried to found if there have any discount or they are still have this book. I found another app has this book, but it didn’t have any discount. So, at the end of story, I changed my list.
