Why don’t I use “minus”? – Why can’t I use “minus”?

Minus vs. Subtract
— “Minus” is a word that shows that we’re calculating
e.g. 6 -3 = 3; six minus three is (equal to) 3
— Subtract is the action of removing one number from another; to take
— Subtract is a verb
e.g. If I subtract three from six, I get three.
e.g. If I have six apples and I take three away, I have three left.
Add vs. Plus – this is the same as minus and subtract; add is the verb, to give
e.g. 3 + 3 = 6; three plus three is (equal to) six
e.g. If I have three apples, and I add three more, I have six
e.g. If I have three apples and you give me three more, I have six in total.
Multiply vs. Times
e.g. 6 x 6 = 36; six times six is thirty-six
e.g. If you multiply six times/by six, you get thirty-six.
Divide vs. Divided by

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide are all verbs.
But when you want to read a math calculation, you don’t use verbs. Instead, use minus, plus, times/by, and divided by.
