Vocabulary

I can’t complain – this means that while things are not great, nothing is bad either; everything is just sort of ok

Mold – small black or green stuff that grows in places where it is wet 霉菌
e.g. For example, you usually find mold in bathrooms, on old food, etc.

In the meantime – while you are waiting for something else; the time between two actions
e.g. We paid for our food, and now we are waiting. In the meantime (the time between paying and getting our food) we are going to go next door and buy a juice.
(Mean)while – two things happening at the same time
e.g. While they are cooking our food, we will go next door and buy a juice.

Musical – a theater performance where some of the talking is singing instead; a movie where some of the talking is singing instead
Dialogue – conversation between two people; all the talking in a play, movie, or musical
e.g. In a musical, some of the dialogue is replaced by songs.

Dutch – the adjective for things from “the Netherlands”
e.g. My friend works for a Dutch bank.

Low-Risk – (not low-risky)

Reader’s Digest – a magazine that takes novels and gives a short version of them
Give me the Reader’s Digest version – give me the summary of something

Increase – to add more of something; to get bigger
e.g. Prices will increase by 5% this year.
Inflate – for something to get bigger in all directions at once
e.g. For the party we have to inflate fifty balloons (they are now small we will put air in them to make them bigger)
Inflation – when the cost of buying things gets larger so that money is worth less
