Vocabulary

Hallmark Holiday – Hallmark is a greeting card company in the US, and they created Valentine’s Day, or at least made it popular; Black Friday is another example, as are Single’s Day and 618
Greeting Card – birthday cards, anniversary cards, graduation cards, consolation card

Party Foul – Something socially unacceptable done in a social gathering
e.g. Not wearing a costume to a costume party is a serious party foul.
e.g. Spilling someone else’s alcoholic drink is a classic party foul.

Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) –
Sci-Fi Romance – the Time Traveler’s Wife is a sci-fi romance

Tragic – when some character flaw or situation that the main character cannot quite control leads them to their final end inexorably, unavoidably
e.g. The Time Traveler’s Wife is also sort of tragic.

Geneticist – someone who studies genes

Heritable – when something can be inherited
e.g. The time-traveling gene is heritable.

Book Report – usually a type of homework where you have to summarize the book and talk about what you think of it (for kids in school, mostly)
Book Review – what did you think of the book, maybe so that others can decide whether they want to read it, or to discuss the book with others after they have read it
Reading Journal – when you write your reflections on things you have read for your own personal use

Grammar

— “Much” is an idea of some quantity
— “More” is for comparing two quantities

The father-in-law was hunter – a hunter
They had baby – a baby
— This is to show that something is one of a category: this is a pretty old novel (one of many novels that are pretty old), a baby (one of many things called a baby), etc.
