Vocabulary

Conference – a big meeting for people for people to talk about something together
e.g. Joyce went to a big food conference in Chengdu to see which companies would be good to invest in.

Alcohol – 酒
Wine – 葡萄酒
Beverage – a formal word for “drink,” 饮料
Liquor – a drink with a high level of alcohol

As well as – also including

Soy sauce – 酱油

Friendly – people who are kind, who will talk to you, who will help, who smile
Enthusiastic – someone who is very excited to do something, who has a lot of energy when they are working
e.g. He is friendly, and will talk with anyone, but he isn’t very enthusiastic about selling wine. (he is nice and kind, but he doesn’t get excited about working in sales.)

Passerby – someone who is walking past someone
e.g. When the man was hit (撞, not 打) by a delivery guy (快递员), a passerby stopped to help him and call for help.

Get – used to explain some change, or some result
e.g. I am going to get some water (I don’t have any, and I will have some when I come back)
e.g. I got home at six (I was out, and then I came back inside at six)

Grammar

Which – to connect a long description to a word, we use “which”
e.g. Every year I go to Hangzhou, which is a city near Shanghai, for a short vacation.

From vs. Since – from is to give a period of time that is finished; from . . . to . . .
e.g. I went to school in Illinois from 2010 to 2014.
— Since is to explain that something happens after something else, and is probably still happening
e.g. We have had a big picnic in our town every year since 2000 (every year since 2000, we have had a picnic, and we will continue to have this picnic)

Have seen vs. Saw – “have seen” means that at least once in your life you saw something
— “Saw” means one specific time, a time that is now over
e.g. Have you ever seen a lion? Yes, I have seen a lion. I saw one in Africa in 1986.

Have been vs. was – “have been” is to be in a place in the past and still be there now
— “Was” is about one time
e.g. Have you ever been to Shanghai? Yes. In 1986 I was in Shanghai for business, and I have been living in Shanghai now since 1992.

Tiring vs. tired – tiring is something that makes you feel tired

It’s a big meeting from maybe 1955 there is two meetings. One is in spring and the another is in autumn. They are about wine and foods. Some people take some wine and maybe others will book the wine. Most of them are baijiu putao jiu. Milk, many different milk and jiangyou and huangjiu. I have see the grape wine from Australia, benfu. It’s a brand of grape wine. Very little because most of them are from China. I have been there for one week. I have meetings all the day so it is very tired, and I think the food in Chengdu is very delicious, there is spicy food like hot pot and Sichuan food, chuancai, and Chongqing noodles. I think the people in Chengdu, they are very reqing, because one time I lost the way, so I asked a person pass by, he told me I need to howhowhow to gogogo. I think they are very friendly.

I have see saw the (grape) wine from Australia, Benfu. It’s a brand of grape wine. HoweverI saw very little foreign wine because most of them are from China. I have been was there for one week. I had meetings all the day (every day) so it was very tired tiring, and but I think the food in Chengdu is very delicious. There is spicy food like hot pot, Sichuan style dishes, and Chongqing noodles. I think the people in Chengdu they are very friendly, because one time I lost the way / got lost, so I asked a person pass by passerby for help. He told me where I needed to go / He told me how to get to where I was going. I think they are very friendly.
