nursing home /retirement community / retirement home

e.g. Americans send off their old parents to nursing home.

primal instincts / deeply rooted =  your animal instincts

e.g. Sometimes primal instincts can help you, and sometimes they can offend people.

politically correct culture = the fear that something I say might offend someone else

e.g. Politically correct culture has advantages and disadvantages.

controversial = topic that people are afraid to talk about

e.g. April and Nick are very honest with each other — they never avoid controversial topics.

surreal / it feels like a dream

e.g. Teacher Nick couldn’t believe he was living in Shanghai — it felt surreal.
