mind numbing – sth that is so boring it makes your brain numb / have no feeling
eg. teaching this kid is absolutely mind numbing / is a mind numbing experience

it’s like bashing your head against the wall = futile / pointless / waste of energy
eg. teaching him is like bashing my head against the wall
