makeshift (adj): 1-temporary and of low quality, but used because of a sudden need:
E.g.: Thousands of refugees are living in makeshift camps.

as you see fit / at your own discretion / as you want/ decide on your own
The chairman can allocate the funds at his own discretion.

rigorous = a  difficult / tiring process

he is promising / he shows a lot of promise = he has a lot of potential and you can see it
