Vocabulary

Admire: 钦佩; 赞赏; 仰慕; 欣赏;
ie. I admire her for/because of many reasons. Her good looks is just one of them.
ie. My admiration of her comes from within.

anecdote: short story 逸事; 趣闻; 传闻
ie. She keeps telling me an anecdote about her mother, but I don’t want to listen at all.

effort (use with put in): 气力; 努力; 费力的事
ie. We put a lot of effort into this project.

effortless: adj 不用努力
ie. Wang Fei’s good looks are effortless.

high-maintenance：（adj）耗费精力的
ie. I know Chloe is pretty, but she is a high-maintenance girl.
ie. Don’t get a pet. Pets are really high-maintenance.

Balcony: yang tai
ie. Every time I have my English class, I have to put my cat on the balcony.

Grammar

twenty years ago vs for twenty years
– watch out the for the verb tense
– 20 years ago = point in time
– for 20 years = duration of time
ie. I have been drinking milk tea for two days. (both yesterday and today you drank milk tea)
ie. I drank milk tea two days ago. (you drank milk tea once the day before yesterday.)\

if you are ….. then you can be ….  vs you must …to be….
ie. If you are smart enough and fast enough, then you can become a professional gamer.
ie. You must be smart and fast enough to become a professional gamer.
ie. If you are brilliant enough and wealthy enough, then you can become Iron Man.
ie. You must be brilliant and wealthy enough to become Iron Man.

Q: Who do you admire the most?
A: In my life, I admire the most is my last manager. She became a flight attendant over twenty years. I know in the old time, you must be really pretty and have really good education so you can became flight attendant. She can speak French and graduate from really good school. She still look really young, so that’s the person I admire the most. She is really passionate and the reason I admire her because now I study language, it’s really hard. Back to the old time, she can speak Eng, French, Chinese… so that’s amazing.
A: I admire my last manager the most./ The person who I admire the most is my last manager. She became a flight attendant over twenty years ago./She has been a flight attendant for over twenty years. I know in the old times, you must be really pretty and have really good education to become flight attendant. She can speak French and graduated from really good school. She still look really young, so that’s one of the reasons why I admire her so much. These days, it takes a lot of effort and time and money to look as good as she does at an older age. She is  also really passionate about her job. I admire her even more because now I study language and it’s really hard for me, but she could speak English, French and Chinese back in the old days… so that’s amazing.
