Speaking exercise

When I first arrived at Birmingham I get a cab because I have a lot of luggage with me. I get a cab and I see the cab is very different. The cab is very big and the place to put the luggage is next to you. Because I arrived in 6pm, after I arrived at airport I take the cab to the dorm. it’s already 7. I decide to get food outside but I cannot find any open store and my friend all already in UK for a while they told me that because it’s Sunday night so every store close quite early They get me some bread and some juice to let me have the dinner with them.

The weather in Birmingham is always raining and very windy. My friends told me you don’t need to buy umbrella. You just buy a raincoat. That is very different thing compared to Shanghai.

Grammar

study by my own –  “study by myself” or “study on my own”

I should went to school in London – I should have gone to go school in London

Common mistake with Chinese learners: because + so

In English we usually don’t need to add “so” after “because”

because it’s Sunday night so stores close quite early – Because it’s Sunday night, stores close quite early

It’s not wrong to start your sentence with “because” but it sounds slightly more natural to say something like this: Stores close quite early because it’s Sunday night.

Because I study English at Smart, so I improved my English a lot – My English improved a lot because I study at Smart
