Valerie’s Garden

I am new to the city. I do not know anyone, but an old woman who lives next door. Her name is Valerie. She gives me a big box of vegetables. She grows them in a garden by the sidewalk. There are carrots, tomatoes, beans, and peas. They are the best vegetables I ever ate. Val lives alone, too. But she seems happy in her garden. She loves plants. Sometimes, I can hear her talking to them. Maybe that is why they grow so big.

A New Shirt

There are many stores at the mall and Lucy often goes there. She sees a clothing store and goes inside. There are many different shirts. Some shirts are plain; others have patterns. She gets a colorful floral shirt and tries it on. She looks in the mirror and thinks it looks great, so she decides to buy it.

Calling her brother

Karen lives in California and her brother lives in Ohio. They only see each other once a year, so they miss each other. Karen calls him every day. She talks about their parents and also tells him about her day at school. He tells her about his day at college. They never want to say goodbye to each other.
