Prepositions with Time

at – We use at for specific times

eg: I got off work at 3:30 in the afternoon.

in – We use in for bigger times, and nonspecific times during a day, a month, a season, or a year.

eg:  I will work in the emergency room in 2018.

on – for days, or dates

eg: On December 1st, I started in the E.R.            On the 12th.

eg: I went home on Christmas day.

eg: I got married on New Year’s Eve.

by – indicates a deadline,    end of month/year    10:00pm     day(tomorrow, Friday)

eg: Your homework needs to be finished by Monday.

eg: I have to finish the paper by Monday.

eg: If he doesn’t improve by the end of the month, he’s outta (out of) here.

till / until / up to – an end point.

eg: We have class until 7:20.

since – indicates a beginning point in time

during – in the middle of a period of time.
