Vocabulary

Receive (v): 1- to get or be given something.
E.g.: Did you receive my letter?
E.g.: I received a phone call from your mother.

Pretty (adj): 1- quite, but not very much. 2- almost. 3- beautiful; good looking.
E.g.: The house has four bedrooms, so it’s pretty big.
E.g.: I have pretty much finished here.
E.g.: She’s got such a pretty smile!

Pronunciation (n): 1- the way you say words. 2- 发音
E.g.: English pronunciation is very difficult.

Stretch (v): 1- to make your body or your arms and legs straight so that they are as long as possible, in order to exercise the joints (= place where two bones are connected) after you have been in the same place or position for a long time.

Rude (adj): 1- not polite; offensive or embarrassing.
E.g.: He’s a very rude man.
E.g.: It’s rude not to say “Thank you” when you are given something.

Social media (n): 1- websites and computer programs that allow people to communicate and share information on the internet using a computer or mobile phone.
E.g.: She loves to post pictures of herself on social media.
E.g.: Social media apps and websites such as Weibo, WeChat, and QQ are very popular in China.

Swear (v): 1- to say rude or bad words.
E.g.: It was a real shock, the first time I heard my mother swear.
E.g.: Don’t swear in front of the children!

A woman was asked to leave an airplane because she was angry about a crying baby. She would not sit down in the seat next to the crying baby. The woman was very rude to the baby’s mother. The mother was flying home from New York’s JFK airport with her eight-month-old son. It was a short flight, but the woman was very unhappy. She didn’t want to sit at the back of the plane. The plane was full, so she could not get a different seat.

The mother posted a video of the angry woman on social media. In the video, the woman picks up her coat and shouts: “I’m not sitting next to a crying baby.” She would not calm down. She started to swear at the mother. Cabin crew asked the woman to get off the airplane. She told the cabin crew they would lose their jobs. The mother wrote on Facebook: “This lady thought she was going to be rude to me and…now she has no way home today.”
