Vocabulary

Apartment (n): 1- a room or set of rooms that is part of a building and is used as a place to live.
E.g.: We lived in an apartment for several years before buying a house.

Mammal (n): 1- any animal of which the female feeds her young on milk from her own body. Most mammals give birth to live young, not eggs.
E.g.: Humans, dogs, elephants, and dolphins are all mammals, but birds, fish, and crocodiles are not.

Herd (n): 1– large group of animals of the same type that live and feed together.
E.g.: When we visited Africa, we saw huge herd of elephants. They were amazing!

Mature (adj/v): 1- Mature people behave like adults in a way that shows they are well developed emotionally. 2- to become more developed mentally and emotionally and behave in a responsible way. 3- to become completely grown physically
E.g.: He’s very mature for his age.
E.g.: Girls are said to mature faster than boys.
E.g.: Humans take longer to mature than most other animals.

Exhibit (n): 1- a collection of objects that is shown to the public in a museum, etc. 2- 展示
E.g.: Let’s go see the new dinosaur exhibit.

Baby Giraffe in Texas

A zoo in Texas added another giraffe to its herd – a 1.8-meter-tall, 84-kilogram baby boy born on June 8th, who is still awaiting a name.

When he fully matures, people expect him to be 5.5 meters tall and weigh up to 1,360 kilograms. Along with the rest of the herd, he will join the African savannah exhibit which will open next year.
