Vocabulary

Appearance (n): 1- an occasion when someone appears in public. 2- the way a person or thing looks to other people:
E.g.: It was his first appearance on television as president.
E.g.: You can change the whole appearance of a room just by lighting it in a certain way.

Vanity (n): 1- the fact that you are too interested in your appearance or achievements. (adj: Vain)
E.g.: He wants the job purely for reasons of vanity and ambition.

Compulsive (adj): 1- doing something a lot and unable to stop doing it.
E.g.: He’s a compulsive liar and cannot be trusted.

Addiction (n): 1- the need or strong desire to do or to have something, or a very strong liking for something:
E.g.: He has an addiction to alcohol

Intuition (n): 1- (knowledge from) an ability to understand or know something immediately based on your feelings rather than facts.
E.g.: Often there’s no clear evidence one way or the other and you just have to base your judgment on intuition.
E.g.:  I can’t explain how I knew – I just had an intuition that you’d been involved in an accident.

Intuitive (adj): 1- based on feelings rather than facts or proof. 2- able to know or understand something because of feelings rather than facts or proof.
Most people have an intuitive sense of right and wrong.
Men are often regarded as less intuitive than women.

Acronym (n): 1- an abbreviation consisting of the first letters of each word in the name of something, pronounced as a word.
E.g.: “UN” is an acronym for United Nations.

Advocate (v/n): 1- to publicly support or suggest an idea, development, or way of doing something.
E.g.: She’s always been an advocate for Human Rights.

Vanish (v): 1- to disappear or stop being present or existing, especially in a sudden, surprising way:
E.g.: The child vanished while on her way home from school.
