Vocabulary

Character (n): 1- the particular combination of qualities in a person or place that makes them different from others.
E.g.: Politeness is traditionally part of the British character.

Characteristic (n): 1-  a typical or noticeable quality of someone or something.
E.g.: Unfortunately a big nose is a family characteristic.

Overweight (adj): 1- fat.
E.g.: He used to be very overweight.

Captivate (v): 1- to hold the attention of someone by being extremely interesting, exciting, pleasant, or attractive. (adj: Captivating)
E.g.: With her beauty and charm, she captivated film audiences everywhere.
E.g.: The plot of the movie is very captivating.

Ups and Downs (n): 1- If someone or something experiences ups and downs, a mixture of good and bad things happens to him, her, or it.
E.g.: Like most married couples we’ve had our ups and downs, but life’s like that.

Objective (adj): 1- based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings.
E.g.: I can’t really be objective when I’m judging my daughter’s work.

Subjective (adj): 1- influenced by or based on personal beliefs or feelings, rather than based on facts.
E.g.: I think my husband is the most handsome man in the world, but I realize my judgment is rather subjective.

Mob (v): 1- an organization of criminals.
E.g.: He’s a New York mob leader.
