Vocabulary

Diagnosis (n): 1- a judgment about what a particular illness or problem is, made after examining it.
E.g.: The doctor has made an initial diagnosis.

Thyroid (n): 1- a gland (= an organ) in the front of the neck that is involved in controlling the way the body develops and works. 2- 甲状腺
E.g.: She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Chemotherapy (n): 1- the treatment of diseases using chemicals.
E.g.: Chemotherapy is often used in the treatment of cancer.

Pretext (n): 1- a pretended reason for doing something that is used to hide the real reason:
E.g.: The border dispute was used as a pretext for military intervention.

Brainwash (v): 1- to make someone believe something by repeatedly telling them that it is true and preventing any other information from reaching them :
E.g.: Their government is trying to brainwash them into thinking that war cannot be avoided.

Invade (v): 1- to enter a country by force with large numbers of soldiers in order to take possession of it:
E.g.: Concentrations of troops near the border look set to invade within the next few days.

Propaganda (n): 1- information, ideas, opinions, or images, often only giving one part of an argument, that are broadcast, published, or in some other way spread with the intention of influencing people’s opinions.
E.g.: The government is using propaganda machine to restore the prime minister’s image.

Dictator (n): 1– 独裁者
