Vocabulary

Opinionated (adj): 1- having and expressing a lot of opinions.
E.g.: She’s a very opinionated young lady.

Save face (v): 1- to keep your reputation and avoid others losing respect for you.
E.g.: We said he left “to pursue other interests” to let him save face, but actually we fired him.

Impose (v): 1-  to force someone to accept something, especially a belief or way of living.
E.g.: I don’t want them to impose their religious beliefs on my children.
E.g.: We must impose some kind of order on the way this office is run.

Imply (v): 1– to communicate an idea or feeling without saying it directly:
E.g.: Are you implying (that) I’m fat?
E.g.: I’m not implying anything about your cooking, but could we eat out tonight?

Comply (v): 1- to obey to act according to an order, set of rules, or request:
E.g.: There are serious penalties for failure to comply with the regulations.
E.g.: He was jailed for refusing to comply with the court order.
E.g.: His boss said he was fired because he refused to comply with his orders.

Grammar

Noun = a name of a person, a thing, an animal, a place, etc.
E.g.: cup, computer, table, Shanghai, Emma, flower, umbrella, etc.

Pronoun = a word we use instead of a noun.
E.g.: I, you, he, she, it, we, they, my, mine, their, his, her, hers, yours, our, etc.

Verb = an action = anything you do.
E.g.: to do, to be, to play, to run, to go, to make, to help, to study, to speak, etc.

Adjective = a word that describes a noun or a pronoun.
E.g.: small, smart, big, beautiful, ugly, stupid, great, good, nice, terrible, hot, cold, sunny, etc.

Adverb = a word that describes a verb, adjective or another adverb and answers one of the following questions:

  • How: easily, happily, loudly, quickly, well, slowly, sadly, etc..
  • How often: never, always, every day,  frequently, seldom, often, sometimes..
  • When: now, after, before, early, yesterday, today, soon, since, etc..
  • Where: here, there, home, inside, near, outside, away, everywhere, etc..
