Vocabulary

Cease (v): 1- to stop something:
E.g.: Whether the protests will cease remains to be seen.
E.g.: The company has decided to cease all UK operations after this year.
E.g.: We expect these bad practices to cease immediately.

Ceasefire (n): 1- an agreement, usually between two armies, to stop fighting in order to allow discussions about peace.
E.g.: The two countries have declared a ceasefire and resumed the negotiation.

Civil war (n): 1- a war fought by different groups of people living in the same country.
E.g.: The current civil war in Syria has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians.
E.g.: The Spanish Civil War lasted from 1936 to 1939.

Replicate (v): 1- to make or do something again in exactly the same way.
E.g.: Researchers tried many times to replicate the original experiment.

Familiar (adj): 1- easy to recognize because of being seen, met, heard, etc. before:
E.g.: There were one or two familiar faces (= people I knew).
E.g.: The house looked strangely familiar, though she knew she’d never been there before.
E.g.: The street was familiar to me.
