Vocabulary

Discipline (n/v): 1- the ability to control yourself or other people, even in difficult situations. 2- to teach someone to behave in a controlled way. 3- to punish someone.
E.g.: Maintaining classroom discipline (= control of the students) is the first task of every teacher.
E.g.: I’m trying to discipline myself to eat less chocolate.
E.g.: A senior army officer has been disciplined for revealing secret government plans to the media.

Suspect (n): 1-  a person believed to have committed a crime or done something wrong, or something believed to have caused something bad:
E.g.: Police have issued a photograph of the suspect.
E.g.: No one knows what caused the outbreak of food poisoning, but shellfish (贝类) is the main suspect (= is thought to have caused it).

Food poisoning (n): 1- an illness usually caused by eating food that has gone bad.
E.g.: I’ve gotten a terrible case of food poisoning during the trip.

Outbreak (n): 1- a time when something suddenly begins, especially a disease or something else dangerous or unpleasant:
E.g.: There’s an outbreak of flu currently happening in the city.
E.g.: Last weekend saw outbreaks of the disease in other countries.

Further (adv): 1- comparative of far: to a greater distance or degree, or at a more advanced level:
E.g.: I never got further than the first five pages of “Ulysses”.
E.g.: We discussed the problem but we didn’t get much further in actually solving it.
E.g.: The whole matter is further complicated by the fact that Amanda and Jo refuse to speak to each other.

Depression (n): 1- a mental illness in which a person is very unhappy and anxious (= worried and nervous) for long periods and cannot have a normal life during these periods:
E.g.: Tiredness, loss of appetite, and sleeping problems are all classic symptoms of depression.
E.g.: If you suffer from depression, it’s best to get professional help.

Entertain (v): 1- to keep a group of people interested or enjoying themselves:
E.g.: We hired a magician to entertain the children.
E.g.: Most children’s television programs aim to educate and entertain at the same time.
