Worse case scenario:

– This morning I received an email from Jo, saying she adjusted the expense budget of this year. I had no idea about it since the budget was fixed in this March. So I asked Cherry, our accountant , if they requested Jo to make the adjustment. It turned out itās true but the Finance dept. had already finalized the adjustment which doesnāt agree with Joās version. To let Jo know, I sent a private message to Jo via our internal communicator. I said:ā Cherry told me that the Financial dept. had finalized your budget plan and your version is not acceptableā¦.ā Guess what , only one minute right after I sent it, I received an email sent from Jo to Cherryās boss Kent, copied me. In this email she cropped and pasted the conversation between she and I and questioned Kent whatās wrong with her version which was actually drafted together by her and Kent. I was freak out. I apologized to Cherry , I didnāt mean to mention her name. And she said Kent was shocked when he saw this email and suggested me avoiding to use ā not acceptableā next time.
– Wait, why did you have to aplogize to Cherry since you just told Jo the true.
– I donāt know, I just felt thereās something wrong. Itās a casual talk, and I didnāt polish my language like when I draft an email. To Cherry and Kent, maybe it seemed like I was saying sth bad behindh their back. I didnāt expect Jo would crop and share our conversation like that. She gave me a headache, like I lost the control of my privacy. And I didnāt know ānot acceptableā was not acceptable.
– Yeah, I didnāt know either, but now I guess it sounds too strong. Next time be careful when you talk to Jo.
– Yes. I kind of messed it up, but at least this whole thing reminds me we donāt have privacy when we are using our company laptop at all. I feel like we have, but the truth is we donāt. So I should be careful not only when I am talking to someone via wechat, qq, or communicator , but also when I am doing anything on it.
– Good for you. It helps you avoid the worst case scenario: you had a very improper conversation with someone and got fired, and had to start to work in a new company from scratchā¦..
