Vocabulary

Refugee (n): 1- a person who has escaped from their own country for political, religious, or economic reasons or because of a war.
E.g.: Thousands of refugees fled across the border.
E.g.: He had to show that he had a well-founded fear of persecution on religious or political grounds to qualify as a refugee.
E.g.: We have been tasked with setting up camps for refugees.
E.g.: The refugees were packed shoulder to shoulder on the boat.

Intercept (v): 1- o stop and catch something or someone before that thing or person is able to reach a particular place:
E.g.: Law enforcement agents intercepted a shipment of drugs from Central America.

Sin (n): 1- the offense of breaking, or the breaking of, a religious or moral law.
E.g.: He thinks a lot about sin.
E.g.: She prayed to God, asking Him to forgive all her sins.
E.g.: I think it’s a sin (= is morally wrong) to waste food, when so many people in the world are hungry.
E.g.: For my sins (= as if it were a punishment), I’m organizing the office party this year.

Contradict (v): 1- (of people) to say the opposite of what someone else has said, or (of one fact or statement) to be so different from another fact or statement that one of them must be wrong.
E.g.: If you’re both going to lie, at least stick to the same story and don’t contradict each other!
E.g.: He kept contradicting himself when we were arguing – I think he was a bit confused.
E.g.: How dare you contradict (me)!
E.g.: Recent evidence has contradicted established theories on this subject.
