Vocabulary

Upper (adj): 1- at a higher position or level than something else, or being the top part of something:
E.g.: The office building’s upper floors were being repainted.
E.g.: She had to get braces, but only on her upper teeth.

Lower (adj): 1- positioned below one or more similar things, or of the bottom part of something:
E.g.: Her lower lip trembled as if she were about to cry.
E.g.: I’ve got a pain in my lower (= the bottom part of my) back.

Mention (v): 1- to speak about something quickly, giving little detail or using few words:
E.g.: I’ll mention your ideas to Mary.
E.g.: He casually mentioned (that) he was leaving his job.
E.g.: My wife mentioned seeing you the other day.
E.g.: Did she happen to mention whether she would be coming?

Tight (adj): 1- (held or kept together) firmly or closely.
E.g.: I can’t untie the knot – it’s too tight.
E.g.: This lid is on very tight.
E.g.: The people stood talking in tight groups.
E.g.: Hold on tight when we go around the corner.

Rhetorical Question (n): 1- a question, asked in order to make a statement, that does not expect an answer.
E.g.: “Why do these things always happen to me?” is a rhetorical question.

Alleviate (v): 1- to make something bad such as pain or problems less severe.
E.g.: The drugs did nothing to alleviate her pain/suffering.

Riverbank (n): 1- the land at either side of a river.
E.g.: We sat on the riverbank and had a picnic.
