Vocabulary

Rhetoric (n): 1- speech or writing intended to be effective and influence people.
E.g.: How far the president will be able to translate his campaign rhetoric into action remains to be seen.
E.g.: I was swayed by her rhetoric into donating all my savings to the charity.

Salary (n): 1- a fixed amount of money that an employee is paid for a job.
E.g.: His net monthly salary is €2,500.
E.g.: She’s on quite a decent salary in her present job.
E.g.: He took a drop in (= accepted a lower) salary when he changed jobs.

Income (n): 1- the total amount of money that is earned from doing work or received from investments.
E.g.: Average incomes have risen by 4.5 percent over the past year.
E.g.: More help is needed for people on low incomes.
E.g.: I haven’t had much income from my stocks and shares this year.

Approach (v): 1- to come near or nearer to something or someone in space, time, quality, or amount. 2- to speak to, write to, or visit someone in order to do something such as make a request or business agreement.
E.g.: We could just see the train approaching in the distance.
E.g.: If you look out of the window on the left, you’ll see that we’re now approaching the Eiffel Tower.
E.g.: I see it’s approaching lunchtime, so let’s take a break.
E.g.: In my opinion, no other composers even begin to approach (= come near in quality to) Mozart.
E.g.: The total amount raised so far is approaching (= almost) $1,000.
E.g.: He’s very active for a man approaching 80 (= who is almost 80 years old).
E.g.: We’ve just approached the bank for/about a loan.
E.g.: She’s been approached by a modeling agency.

Approach (n): 1- way of considering or doing something.
E.g.: Since our research so far has not produced any answers to this problem, we need to adopt a different approach to it.
E.g.: I’ve just read an interesting book which has a new approach to Shakespeare.
E.g.: Michael is always very logical in his approach.
