Vocabulary

Back up plan (n): 1- a second plan that you can opt for in case something bad happens.
E.g.: It’s important to always have a backup plan.

Abuse (v/n): 1- to use something for the wrong purpose in a way that is harmful or morally wrong.
E.g.: She is continually abusing her authority by getting other people to do things for her.
E.g.:  Drug and alcohol abuse (= using these substances in a bad way) contributed to his early death.

Thief (n): 1- a person who steals.
E.g.: The art gallery was broken into last night, and the thieves got away with two valuable paintings.

Mess (n): 1- Something or someone that is a mess, or is in a mess, looks dirty or untidy. 2- a situation that is full of problems.
E.g.: He makes a terrible mess when he’s cooking.
E.g.: She said that her life was a mess.

Elitist (adj): 1- something that’s organized in a way that serves the good of a few people (the elite), who have special interests or abilities.
E.g.: Many remember sport at school as elitist, focusing only on those who were good at it.
