Vocabulary

Set up – to build, or put something in order

Incomplete – not complete

On-going – continuous

Speak is mostly just about sound, producing sound; an event.
Say is about words, and there are probably people listening; what did they say.
e.g. He opened his mouth and spoke.
e.g. He said that he didn’t like it.
— To make it clear that your words are for somebody to hear, you can use “to”
e.g. I spoke to Jesse today about your class.
e.g. I said to him that I didn’t like it.

Talk is about the activity of producing sounds; continuing, on-going
— Talk can accept many different prepositions, each with its own meaning.
— “Talk to” is a conversation, probably some business.
e.g. I talked with Jesse today about classes.
— “Talk about” is to tell what the topic was.
— “Talk with” is also conversation, but emphasizes exchange of ideas, togetherness.
— “Talk at” is one-way. Only one person is speaking, and they are probably being rude, or lecturing someone for making a mistake, and not allowing them to respond.
Tell is about communicating information, so it doesn’t need “to,” because it already means “motion,” “transfer” of an idea.
— “About” is still used to introduce the topic.
e.g. I told him about why I don’t like it.

TBD – “to be determined”; to be decided in the future
Is there also a TBC? “to be continued”

Flatter – to tell someone how good they are
e.g. It’s not a bad idea to flatter your business partners.

Face (up to) Failure – to accept that you made a mistake and to decide what to do to fix it or how to apologize; literally, to look at it
e.g. He’s just going to have to face the fact that he failed.
e.g. He’s just going to have to face up to his failure and try to make it right.
e.g. He’s going to have to face up to it someday!

Grammar

Speaked it to Whitney – spoke; I told Whitney

A previously teacher – a previous teacher
