Homework

Read about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (in English). Perhaps check different personality types that are only different by one letter (like ISTJ and ISTP) so that you can see what the difference is between types.

Either write something about the test, or be ready for a speaking next time.

Vocabulary

Promote – to try to convince other people that something is good and that they should use, eat, or buy it
e.g. D&G was trying to promote Italian food and culture by insulting Chinese food and culture. This is a bad strategy.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) – a personality test that uses four different things to measure what you are like, what your strengths are, what your weaknesses are, etc.

Indicator – something that tells you which one is correct, which direction to go; out of many possibilities, it gives you one
e.g. My oven has an indicator to tell me when the oven is on (this is a small light).

Continuum – it’s a way to measure something between two extremes without having to decide which extreme the thing is; it tells you how much of something you are, not the category
e.g. The types different parts of the MBTI are not just yes or no, it places people on a continuum between “very extroverted” and “very introverted.” You can be anywhere in between.

Extroversion/Introversion – extroverts like to talk with other people and with the world in general; introverts prefer to have quiet time to think
Sensing/Intuition – this is how people focus on things around them; sensing means that the person prefers details; intuition means that the person prefers general thoughts
— Those who are stronger “sensing” like to learn lots of details and then learn the reasons or the rules later. Those who are strong “intuition” like to learn the rules or theories first, and then to look at details.
Thinking/Feeling – how does a person interact with other people; do they like to look at things with logic and reason, or do they like to think about how the other person is feeling
Judging/Perceiving – structure vs. flexibility

Sense – to get information directly from the world; seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and smelling
Intuition – an ability to understand things through the rules of something, they can just feel how something works
e.g. A good musician doesn’t have to think about how play beautifully with others, they can just listen, understand, and respond.

Flexibility – the ability to change quickly
Structure – order in thinking, in planning, in doing

Grammar

Writing exercise

I think my boss’s type is ISTJ. She is a logical person and focus on the truth of things. Because our job decides that we must be careful and base on the truly data to do the analysis, so my boss isn’t a person who has imagination and creativity. It is the work type of my boss, maybe in her life, she is another type.
