Stay is the opposite of go. If something is going to “stay” somewhere, it must also be able to choose to go.
We want to use “let,” because these kids could take the shoes back, but they don’t. They think that the other girl needs them more than they do.

Would is about a future we aren’t sure about.

Writing exercise

《Children of Heaven》is a very warmly movie, it tells a story of a poor family in Iran. The brother lost the shoes of his sister, which was almost the only ones she could wear to school. Then the movie tells the brother and sister shared one shoes to go to school and they tried everything to get the shoes back, but when they found the shoes was on the another girl’s feet whose farther was blind, they kept shoes for the girl and didn’t say anything. After that, the brother’s school would hold a running race, who could get award of a new sport shoes if he is the third winner. In the end, the brother won the games, but he cried when he faced the camera of the journalist because he is the number 1 but not the third one. Fortunately their dad bought their both new shoes for them.
This movie really moves me, it reminds me the childhood with my brother who is younger than me. We quarreled, we helped, we loved. What a wonderful time.
