Vocabulary

Block – an area of a city between four roads

Bend vs. Curve – bend is an action, or the result of an action; curve is the shape of something
e.g. He bent over.
e.g. He bent the metal into a new shape.
e.g. The curves in the road (the shape of the road, which doesn’t change)
e.g. The curves of the mountains.

Marker – something for writing on a whiteboard, which is wet inside and uses a sort of absorbent material to write with 马克笔

Surround – to be on all sides of something
Around – to be on some or all sides something (“all around”)
e.g. My house is surrounded by trees.
e.g. I have trees all around my house (the same as the previous one)
e.g. The road goes around the mountain (it curves along part of the mountain, but not all of it)

Take a break – to rest for a short time
e.g. You all look tired. Why don’t you take a break?
“Have a rest” – perhaps this is more British

Troubling – something which makes you worry
e.g. The new news about the economy is troubling for rubber traders.
Troublesome – something that bothers you (vexatious)
e.g. These forms we have to fill out are very troublesome.

Contradiction – two things that cannot be true together
(Contradict (verb), contradictory (adj))
e.g. You want to lose weight, but you want to be warmer in winter. How can you do both of those at the same time? That’s a contradiction!

See vs. Look at – “see” is about your position, and whether you have the ability to sense something with your eyes; “look” is to move your eyes towards something
e.g. I can see the mountain from here.
e.g. When she spoke, I looked at her.

As the winter comes, there are also following some trouble things, something like good appetite, you will find all kinds of food looks really tasty, and it is tough for you to control this feeling, and the first thing you are thinking about when the cold wind pass by is that what you will eat when the work in finished, so then you’ll see the numbers on the weighing scale looks very unfriendly.
