Vocabulary

Entertainment – something for people to watch when they have free time, to relax
e.g. TV is one of the most popular forms of entertainment.

Slang – words or phrases which are not used formally, usually not the words you learn in school, informal spoken language 俚语
e.g. I couldn’t understand him because he was using too much unfamiliar slang.
For example:
Dude – a term for a friend, usually between guys

Slang vs. Dialect – a dialect is all the words you use, and differences between the groups of words; slang is only a part of the words someone uses, the more informal ones
e.g. The Shanghai dialect is different from the Sichuan dialect (they use different words)

Outdoor – the adjective of “outside,” not inside of any building, structure
e.g. I love to go to the outdoor cinema.

Campus – 校园

Set (theater verb) – a play which happens in another time or place than where the actors and audience are is “set” in the other place
e.g. The play was set in Nigeria.
e.g. The play was set in the 1940’s.
e.g. The play was set in ancient Egypt.

Period piece – a play set in the past, where all the actors act, dress, and speak like they are really in the past
e.g. Yara recently helped do the costumes and makeup for a period piece.
