F2F Class Notes (Nick) [S]

Homework

Try to use can’t and couldn’t in a story. Think about using couldn’t in the past and in the future.

Vocabulary

Circle – 圆子

Cycle – a few things that happen one after another again and again
e.g. X –> Y –> Z –> X –> Y . . .
e.g. The water cycle is when water evaporates from the ocean in to the sky, it forms clouds and rains, this makes rivers which go back to the ocean.

Hypothetical – 假设

Whether – used to give two choices
e.g. I don’t know whether I want to eat fish or vegetables.

Grammar

— In English, we use the past to talk about things that don’t exist.
e.g. If I had more money… (I don’t now, but if…)
— Use “couldn’t, shouldn’t, and wouldn’t” in the future for hypothetical situations.
e.g. Even if he were/was still alive, she still couldn’t have a baby.

We use the present to talk about what usually or often happens.
e.g. I eat lunch at 11 (I do this a lot)
e.g. I play soccer (I do it often)
Also, use it to talk about all things:
e.g. Dogs like to eat weird things.
e.g. Americans like hamburgers (I want to say that they all do)

Speaking exercise

It’s hard to say like or dislike they are people you can’t like him or don’t like him – they are not the mistake – if I have more money I will adopt a baby (would) I think in china some people cant adopt a child because they cant have a child but I personally think the adopted child’s psychology is not health. So if someone adopted the child they should pay more attention in their psychology. Maybe they want something news – you can get some praise

It’s hard to say whether I like or dislike it (adoption). They are people! You can’t like him or not like adopted children him – the children are not the mistakes. If I had more money, (then) I would adopt a baby. I think in China some people can’t adopt a child because they can’t have a child / have their own child but I personally think (that) the adopted child’s psychology / mental health is not healthy. So if someone adopts the child they should pay more attention in to their mental health / psychological development.
