Continue to do speaking practice. Focus on singular vs. plural (for example, with “times” in the grammar section below)

Vocabulary

Expect vs. Hope vs. Wish – when you think something will happen, you’re pretty sure; you want something to happen, and it is possible but maybe likely or maybe unlikely; you want something to happen but it’s probably not going to happen, almost impossible
e.g. I expect that our team will win because our players are much more skilled.
e.g. I expect Nick to call in the next few minutes (because we have an online class scheduled).
e.g. I hope that our team can win today, though the opponents are going to be tough.
e.g. I wish I could play professional soccer (I am not good enough, and I am much too old to become good enough).

Psychology – the study of how people think and act

Stoicism – a philosophical belief that as long as someone is in control of their own thoughts and actions, they can remain above the pain of life
e.g. Once you control your own thoughts, it doesn’t matter what problems come, you will be able to handle them.

Accreditation – when someone is officially allowed to do something that requires training
e.g. 心理咨询师认证

Self-awareness – to be able to see yourself as other people do, both your strengths and your problems
e.g. He had the self-awareness to realize that he had begun to talk about a difficult topic, and he moved on to another topic.

Self-knowledge – to be able to assess yourself, what you want and why you want those things; why you react to other people in a certain way
e.g. I cannot hang out with these people because they bring out my worst qualities.
e.g. This job pays a lot, but I cannot accept it because I don’t find the work worthwhile.

Touch on – for something to be related to
e.g. This book touches on business and international politics.

Familiarity – when you get to know something over time by working in some area or reading about a topic
e.g. Candy is building familiarity with these new markets in order to build this new company.

Speaking exercise

I think my life is very boring, work and sleep, sleep and work. In this tough time, actually I want to quit. So I am trying to staying here for certain times and make myself to improve some step, means I touched some new fields, so I want to make further femeeler, and make myself improve. No matter the hard skill, product information or market information, you need the soft skill, you need to know these fields then you can communicate this information or thinking points. Hard skill also improved the soft skill.


I think my life is very boring. I just work and sleep, sleep and work. In this tough time, actually I want to quit. You need to know these fields and then you can communicate this information or thinking points to others. Improving your hard skills also improves your soft skills.
