Grammar

When you came Shanghai – When did you (first) come to Shanghai?

When you talk about years, you usually just read it as two numbers:
e.g. 2017 = twenty seventeen (two thousand seventeen, also ok)
e.g. 1996 = nineteen ninety-six (one thousand ninety-six, strange)
e.g. 1066 = ten sixty-six
BUT, 2000 – 2009 = two thousand, two thousand one, two thousand two (not twenty oh one, or twenty oh nine)
ALSO, 1900 – 1909 = nineteen hundred, nineteen oh one, nineteen oh two . . .

Comparison

e.g. He is taller than me

Use the present tense for things that happen often, everyday, or regularly.
e.g. I eat noodles every Thursday.

When “search” has an object, you need to use “for”
e.g. I was searching for a good place to eat.
Or for time
e.g. We were searching for a good house for months.
