Vocabulary

Bid – to offer a price to buy some thing or some service
Win a bid – to be the one chosen to buy the product or provide the service (like making something)
e.g. We recently won the bid to produce C-channel hangers for an art museum.

Exhibition – a formal display of art, cars, etc.; showing something publicly
e.g. The museum that we are installing our new plate and C-channels in will use them to hang art.

To the core – to be totally something; 十足
e.g. He is a businessman to his core.

Bohemian Rhapsody – (bo – he – me – an   rap – so – dee) – the recent movie about Freddie Mercury and the band Queen

Show / Play – when you can go to see a movie at the movie theater (or a play)
e.g. I’m not sure if Bohemian Rhapsody is still playing / showing.

Greatest Hits – a musical disc, a cd that puts all of a band’s most famous songs together
e.g. As a kid, I remember listening to a Queen’s Greatest Hits album driving in the van with my family.

Melancholic – sort of sad, but as a person, not just because something bad happened
e.g. Everyone thought Roberto Baggio was a handsome, melancholic man, and so they rooted for the Italian team in the 1994 World Cup.

Ring – when an alarm or a phone call makes sound
Vibrate – when your phone just moves and makes sounds that way

Go off – for an alarm to make your clock or phone start to make noise
e.g. Before I realized that my wife was cancelling / turning off my alarms at night, I was confused about why my alarms never went off.

Pronunciation

Draw vs. Drill – be careful to put your tongue up and to the front for “drill,” and don’t move your lips when you say “L”
