Homework

Explain the difference between coaches, trainers, and managers on a sports team. What are they responsible for doing? Why do they need different positions? Should they have different positions?

Vocabulary

Motor City – Detroit; a city in the US famous for all the car manufacturers that used to be there

Individual – about just one person
e.g. Soccer is not an individual sport, it’s about teamwork.

Personal – about one person’s emotions, opinions, etc.
e.g. He doesn’t like to talk about personal things, like his relationships, but instead about politics.

Coach – someone who tells a sports team what to do, how to play better as a group
Trainer – someone who shows a person how to become faster, stronger, or better at a task
Manager – someone who is also in charge of business and staff decision

Grammar

I am traveling outside right now – I am on a business trip now / I am traveling for business
— Outside is for location; it cannot be an adverb
e.g. I am outside of the building.
— The opposite of “outside” is “inside,” and you can’t really travel “inside”
— For travel “inside” of the the city where you work, maybe say:
e.g. I have business in another part / area of Shanghai.

Chicago’s basketball club – Chicago’s basketball team
— “Club” is usually used for soccer teams

Are you popular for soccer ball – Is soccer popular?

Controlled by government – controlled by the government
