Vocabulary
Law-abiding – someone who follows the law, doesn’t break the law
e.g. All of the people at Carol’s office are law-abiding citizens who do not steal other peoples’ food from the fridge.
Law vs. Regulation – both are authorized by the government, but it depends upon “by who”
— The legislature writes laws and has the final authority
— The executive writes regulations to give the laws force; the laws are not effective by themselves
Legislature – 立法机关
Legislator – a person in the legislature
Authorize – verb for “authority”
Succeed – verb for “success”
Argue with vs. Argue for vs. Argue about
— “With” is for the people also arguing; who
— “For” is to support something; why
— “About” is to describe the topic for the argument; what
Hang up – to end a phone call
Hang up on [person] – to end a phone call unexpectedly
Contents vs. Topic / Subject
— Contents are inside something (like a box, or a book)
— Topic or subject are the things you are talking or reading about
Grammar
Share their food to me – share their food with me
— “To” is like an arrow, about movement or transfer.
— “With” is about what we do together.
