Homework

Write about the rock climbing wall. Did your friend enjoy it? Were there many people climbing? How tall was the wall? Etc.

Vocabulary

Somewhat – sort of, rather, kind of, a little; some but not too much
e.g. He is somewhat tall; more than 185cm.

Vowel – a e i o u
Consonants – all other letters

Homophone – words that sound the same, but have different meanings
e.g. There, they’re, their
Homonym – words which are spelled the same, but have different meanings, and sometimes different sounds
e.g. Lead (the metal, pb); or lead, to go in front and have people follow

(Rock-)climbing wall – a wall with fake rocks that you can use to practice climbing
e.g. At the mall they have a three-story climbing wall which is very popular.

Floor vs. Story
— Floor and story can both mean a level of a building 层
BUT, when we measure the height of a building, we don’t want to measure just the floor, we want to measure the whole space on each floor. Story is a unit of measurement.
e.g. I’m going to the ninth floor/story for my class at SmartEnglish.
e.g. This is a twenty-story building.

Handhold – a place on a wall where you can put your hand to climb

Lumbar Disk Herniation – 腰椎盘, when the parts between the bones in your spine move out of their correct place

Heavy vs. Serious – heavy means that it has a lot of weight, that something is hard to lift; serious means that it is important or very difficult, or dangerous, etc.

Degenerate – for something to get worse over time

Injury – to be hurt in some way; when something is broken, or cut

Grammar

In/at time – on time
e.g. When you arrive, you are on time.
e.g. When you do something just before it was too late, you are just in time.
— For this one, imagine time as a limit.
e.g. Events are scheduled at a time: dinner will be at 6 pm.
