Revise writing from last class.

Vocabulary

Industry – a working area, like advertising, construction, English teaching
e.g. My old boss still works in the advertising industry.

Subscribe vs. Buy – when you subscribe to something, you can use it but you don’t own it. When you buy something, you own it and can use it however you like.

Career vs. Job – a career is something you do for a long time, or maybe your whole life. A job is something you do for a while to make money.
e.g. I have a career in banking (I expect to be there for a long time)
e.g. I have a job with the fire department (maybe I’m just doing it during the summer, or I’m still looking for another job)


Flexible – the ability of someone or something (like a company or a person) to change quickly in how something is done; smaller change
e.g. You have to be very flexible to plan with large groups (the plans often change)
Adaptable – the ability of a someone or something to change what they are or what they do; larger changes than with flexible
e.g. To work in advertising, you have to be very adaptable, because the industry is always changing.
— Both of these are about responding to change.

Dynamic – something that changes regularly, like circumstances, or a job, or a person, and affects others
— This is about what is changing.
e.g. Advertising is a dynamic industry (it is constantly changing, and the workers must adapt to new conditions)
Stable – the opposite of dynamic; not changing very much
e.g. The dinosaurs lived in long stable periods, which were separated by dynamic times when everything changed.
e.g. Accounting is a very stable industry, with very old rules that are still used today.
